Ever wonder what the weather forecast is? With the Nielm modification to SageTV®, and with some others, I can check the weather and the weather forecast without ever closing SageTV. Big beautiful forecasts (we need some rain!).
Several of the SageTV "STV" modifications have added fantastic extensions. Nielm's STV for version 2.0 and Cayars' STV for version 2.1 include integrated access to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB). The scheduler and recordings have a button to get the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) data on the current selection. This means you can get a quick review, cast listing, cross-references to other things the cast members were in, information on filming locations and even quotes from the film.
Well, Nielm didn't rest on his laurels. After rolling together a fantastic STV for version 2.0, he handed off the layout to Cayars to grab and improve. Meanwhile, Nielm started a top secret project. He finally released it -- a modification of the "Miniature Java Web Server" to serve most of the SageTV control functions. You can read about it here.
What does this mean? Well, from another PC on your home network, you can schedule programs, check schedules, look at the program guide, change recording schedules, etc, without disturbing the person who may be watching a show right now. Of course, with SageTV Client, you could do this with an identical interface to SageTV. With the free webserver plug-in, you can do this without interrupting anyone.
